Contributor Guidelines

Nectar is an on-line magazine focused on women’s outdoor sports & activities that are inspired by the outdoors.

We seek the best materials available from writers, photographers, artists, illustrators, musicians, and videographers that showcase and highlight the outdoor experiences from the female point of view and perspective. Our quest is to find the most inspiring written, visual, and audio material for each issue.

Please read the following and then contact editor [at] nectarmagazine.com with any inquiries.

Writer’s Guidelines

We’re always on the lookout for well written pieces that illuminate outdoor experiences from the female point of view and perspective. Yes this leaves things pretty wide open for interpretation but it’s a big world and we welcome many points of view. So ideally we ask that writers send an article query via email presenting their story idea clearly indicating their perspective and estimate timeline to completion. We’d also ask that when you get in touch you give us a little back ground on yourself, interests, and future adventure plans.

We’re willing to consider previously published pieces or excerpts providing the contributor has clear rights and subject to a review of prior publication.

Feature Articles

Features can be 1,200 to 3,000 words in length. Given the seasonal aspect of outdoor activities actual publication of an article will most often align with the season the activities take place. We are always planning ahead though so if it’s the middle of August and you have a great ski article in mind feel free to get in touch with your idea.

Short Features, Essay’s, & Poetry

Short features run 800-1,000 words.
Essay’s run 400-1000 words.
Poetry…1+ words.

Photography & Art

Time spent in nature has a profoundly important impact on artists working in many diverse mediums. We are always seeking compelling works that reflect an artist’s experiences and interpretation of nature and peoples activities outdoors. We look for work that challenges viewers existing paradigms. Additionally we’re often as interested in the person creating the art as the art itself. Compelling artists themselves could quite easily become the subject of a short feature along with accompanying images.

As with written pieces, we’re willing to consider previously published pieces or excerpts providing the contributor has clear rights and subject to a review of prior publication

Athletes & Professionals

Short biographies or interviews of inspiring athletes and professionals in the outdoor world are of great interest. We not only seek pieces on those who’ve reach the top of their respective sports or careers we also look for inspiring juniors, seniors, or age groupers . Athletes & professionals should be notable for not only for their accomplishments, but their potential, motivation and positive impact on others and the natural environment.

We Can't Wait to Hear From You!

So if you feel you have something that would fit well in Nectar drop us a line today. Unlike other publications that promise a response in 6-8 weeks (how rude is that?) We promise to get back in touch with 6-8 days, though most likely it will be within 48 hours unless we are off on our own adventures.

Nectar wouldn't exist without its community of very talented contributors. We invite anyone with a desire to share their outdoor experiences, through writing, photography, video, art or music, with the rest of the world.
